First time, or playing again?

If you're here it's either because you did all the games and want to discover the lore of Thedas or want to do all the games again and add the books, comics and shows. If you just want to discover the games in chronological order uncheck the rest, all other medias are bonus content (some very important). This guide is spoiler free like the others.

How to read this
The Calendar

Three main calendars exist in this world but the most common is the Chantry calendar, which measures time in "Ages". Each age lasts 100 years, the current Age is the Dragon Age (got it ?), the ninth since the founding of the Chantry and the crowning of Justinia I the first Divine giving the first Age its name.

Flashbacks and DLC placement

Some events work better as a FLASHBACK because they spoil details from the games or gives your character an unnatural omniscience that can break immersion.

DLC placement was studied to be the best possible with the flow of the games.

Canonicity

The games offer different choices and endings that other medias can't follow. So there is a "Bioware Canon" and your own canon. For exemple if you do Dragon Age 2 without doing Origins they will explain events with the "Bioware Canon" but you can also import your save if you did it. The other medias follow this canon so you can find things weird depending on your choices in the games.

Dragon Age Keep

Dragon Age Keep is an official companion-app made by Bioware to keep track of all decisions made and import your state of the world in Inquisition. For the first 2 games it uses your saves and for Veilguard the game will ask you questions.

What's left out and why?8 entries
Dragon Age (IDW, 2010)
Dragon Age IDW comic from 2010 has too many inconsistencies and the events are never referenced again so it's considered non-canon.
The Darkspawn Chronicles
The Darkspawn Chronicles DLC from Origins is a "what-if" scenario, you can do it after the main game but it's not canon.
Hard in Hightown
Hard in Hightown is a in-universe story written by one of the characters, it's pretty cool to read if you want to but it's not in the timeline.
The Final Conversation
The Final Conversation is a fanfiction written by an ex-Bioware employee, even if he created the character the story is about it can't be considered canon but you can read it.
The webcomics
The webcomics are very short stories not really important.
The short stories
The short stories of DA2, DAI and DAV can be found on internet but it's hard to place them so i prefer not to risk myself, read them after each game if you want.
Browser and mobile games
The browser and mobile games are not available anymore, except The Last Court which is in the timeline.
Vows and Vengeance
Dragon Age: Vows and Vengeance is a narrative podcast available on YouTube, it's canon but lacking any images I'm struggling placing it here but if you want listen to it before playing DAV.
